Select an FAQ:

Each school with WCG Broadband / Internet access has a bandwidth speed depending on the type of connection to the school, whether wired as in fibre cables have been laid to the school, or wireless where the connection is made using a dish. That sounds really technical but it essentially equates to a garden hose type scenario. If the pipe is smaller, or narrower, it will not be able to deliver as much water as a thicker pipe. In digital terms, water is the same as the data that is sent to or received from the school.

Certain applications, like videos, use far more data than others, like a text based web page. In order for schools to minimise waiting time for logon or video streaming, it would be necessary to implement a data management plan in the school to regulate traffic on the network.

Some considerations for this are as follows:
1. An entire class accessing video content at the same time should always be avoided, rather opt to show a video over a projector or load it to the individual devices.
2. A policy for social media access should be in place to limit or prevent access to these applications especially during contact time.
3. Access of personal learner and teacher devices needs to be controlled especially during contact time.
4. A roster may be required to ensure access is controlled across various venues at the same time.
5. You may include your own ideas for an effective data management plan. Any effective solutions here can be communicated back to your eLearning Advisor to be shared with other schools.
